Automatic voice muting for Among Us

# Discord goes quiet when the round starts.

A BepInEx mod tells your Discord bot what happens in the game. Everyone is muted during tasks, the living can talk in meetings, and the dead stay quiet.

Only linked players are touched. Kai never ran `/link self`, so the bot leaves them alone.

## How it works

Two pieces you install together: a mod for the game and a Discord bot. They talk over one WebSocket.

1. 1**Install the mod** The host puts `DiscordMute.dll` into `BepInEx/plugins` and hosts a lobby, online or LAN. Nobody else installs anything.
2. 2**Link once** Each player runs `/link self` in Discord and sends the code in the lobby chat. Free chat and quick chat both work.
3. 3**Play** The bot mutes and unmutes the host's voice channel as the round changes. When the game ends or the connection drops, it always unmutes everyone.

## What it does

Everything here ships in the current release.

**Link from the lobby**

`/link self` gives you a text code for free chat and a two-phrase code for quick chat, so guest and quick-chat-only accounts can link too. Codes expire after 5 minutes.

**R**

**M**

**Follows the host**

Mutes whichever voice channel the host is in. `channelIds` is only a fallback.

**Crash-safe**

The bot remembers whom it muted and undoes it after a crash or restart. Mutes your moderators set stay put.

**Admin commands**

Fix links by hand when the normal flow can't be finished, and check the connection while you set things up.

**TOHE and EHR**

Better name matching. With EHR, a blackmailed player stays muted in meetings.

**One socket, one secret**

A single WebSocket with a shared secret, never sent in a URL.

**Just bot.exe**

Releases are compiled. No Bun or Node.js to install.

**Log bridging**

Optionally forward mod logs to the bot console.

### In the game

**Mute by round phase**

Muted during tasks. Meetings unmute the living, the dead stay muted. Each phase can be free, muted or deafened, with a delay of up to 5 seconds.

**Ghost chat**

Optional. Dead players talk during tasks while the living are deafened.

**Several games at once**

Each game mutes the voice channel its host is in, so one server can run more than one.

**Spectators and bystanders**

Members in voice who are not playing are left alone, muted or treated like dead players.

**Automatic relink**

Players are matched by friend code, so renaming in Among Us keeps the link.

**Nickname sync**

Optional. Players get their Among Us name as nickname during the game, restored afterwards.

### For your server

**Live status and match summary**

Phase, host and players while a game runs, with the lobby code behind a spoiler. After each game: why it ended, the winners, the duration and every player.

**Prometheus metrics**

An optional /metrics endpoint for Prometheus and Grafana, off by default.

**JSON logs**

Structured log output for your log tooling.

**Update check**

A notice when a new release is out. One switch turns it off.

**Anonymous telemetry**

Counters only, no IDs or names. One switch turns it off.

## Set it up

Self-hosting works today. A hosted bot is planned.

**1**

**Install BepInEx**

Already using a mod that ships BepInEx? Skip this. Otherwise get the [64-bit BepInEx 6.0.0-be.735 (IL2CPP)](https://builds.bepinex.dev/projects/bepinex_be/735/BepInEx-Unity.IL2CPP-win-x64-6.0.0-be.735%2B5fef357.zip) build. It works for Steam, Epic Games and the Microsoft Store. Extract it into your Among Us folder. itch.io builds are 32-bit and not supported.

**2**

**Add the mod**

Download the [latest release](https://github.com/YONN2222/AmongUs-DiscordMute/releases/latest), copy `DiscordMute.dll` into `BepInEx/plugins`, then start Among Us once and close it. That creates `BepInEx/DiscordMute/config.json`.

**3**

**Set up the bot**

In the `DiscordBot` folder of the release, rename `config.example.json` to `config.json`. Create an application and bot in the [Discord Developer Portal](https://discord.com/developers/applications) and turn on **Server Members Intent** under Bot, and invite the bot with the `bot` and `applications.commands` scopes (permission integer `146877440`). Then fill in the values and pick your own `secret`.

```
{
  "token": "YOUR_BOT_TOKEN",
  "clientId": "YOUR_CLIENT_ID",
  "guildId": "YOUR_GUILD_ID",
  "channelIds": [],
  "secret": "replace-this-with-your-own-secret",
  "botIp": "localhost",
  "botPort": 7264,
  "databaseDialect": "sqlite"
}
```

**4**

**Point the mod at the bot**

Use the same `secret` as the bot, and the bot's IP and port. `exe` points to `start.bat` in the `DiscordBot` folder, so the bot starts with the game.

```
{
  "ip": "localhost",
  "botPort": 7264,
  "secret": "replace-this-with-your-own-secret",
  "exe": "C:\\Path\\To\\DiscordBot\\start.bat",
  "bridgeLogsToBotConsole": false
}
```

Use `\\` or `/` in the path. A single backslash breaks the JSON, the mod falls back to the default secret and the bot rejects it.

**5**

**Start the bot and link**

Host a lobby, online or LAN. The bot starts on its own through `exe`. Everyone runs `/link self`, sends their code in the lobby chat and joins the host's voice channel.

Not sure it's connected? Run `/testconnection` in Discord.

Every config key is explained in the [self-hosting guide](https://docs.mute.yonn2222.com/getting-started/self-host-setup).

## Questions

Short answers to what people ask most. Still stuck? [Open an issue on GitHub](https://github.com/YONN2222/AmongUs-DiscordMute/issues).

Only the host needs the mod, and the host plays on Windows: Steam, Epic Games or the Microsoft Store, all with the 64-bit BepInEx build. itch.io builds are still 32-bit and are not supported. The other players can join from any platform, they only need a linked Discord account.

The host installs BepInEx and puts DiscordMute.dll into BepInEx/plugins. When you self-host, you also run the Discord bot from the release download. It ships as a compiled bot.exe, so you do not need Bun or Node.js. Nobody else installs anything.

A hosted bot is planned. Self-hosting works today. Run your own bot and you are set.

Each player runs /link self in Discord and gets a one-time code. They send it in the lobby chat: the text code in free chat, or two quick chat phrases if their account can only use quick chat. The mod catches the code before it shows up in chat and the account is linked. Codes expire after 5 minutes.

Everyone can talk in the lobby. When the round starts, every linked player in the voice channel the host is in gets muted. In meetings the living can talk, and dead players stay muted until the game ends. When the game ends or the connection to the mod drops, the bot unmutes everyone it muted, and after a crash or restart it does the same. Mutes it did not set itself are left alone.

Mute Members and Deafen Members, so it can server-mute, server-deafen (ghost chat) and unmute players, and Manage Nicknames if you use nickname sync. It must be able to see the voice channel you play in. In every channel you pick in /setup it needs View Channel and Send Messages, and for the link overview and status channels also Manage Messages. The hosted invite already asks for all of these. Add your own bot with the bot and applications.commands scopes so the slash commands show up.

The bot sends anonymous totals every few minutes: a random instance id, whether it is self-hosted or hosted, the bot, mod and Among Us versions, and counters such as games muted and linked users. It never sends Discord IDs, server or channel names, player names, secrets, or hashes of them. To turn it off, set disableTelemetry: true in the bot config.json.

Yes. DiscordMute is free and open source under GPLv3. The mod, the bot and this website live in one public GitHub repository.

No. DiscordMute is a fan-made project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Innersloth.

## Talk in meetings.<br>Stay quiet in tasks.
